Hello,
If anybody has upgraded to CS6 recently while retaining CS5 on a MAC, you may run into this problem. Took me 2 hours and lots of web forum searches to figure out the solution so I thought I'd save you the trouble! If you're finding that while trying to save a file in CS6, that when you select "TIFF" for example, it automatically changes the file extension to "png" or something similar...you likely have Duplicate Files in your Plug-In Folders!! Go into the plug-in folders and delete any duplicates. This works for most folks. Did not work for me! I had to go to Plug-Ins-Filters-and delete the file "Standard Multiplugin.plugin" and even empty it from my trash. This did the trick!! Hope nobody else is having this trouble but if you do, try this!
