Black Grouse - Flutter Jump
Taken last weekend in Scotland. Bit of a quick trip (1600 miles in 3 days) Getting up at 2.30am each morning, in hide around 3.50am (birds arrived at 4.15 approx), first shutter press at approx 6.15am, birds gone by 7.45am. Temp was -3 in morning so slight frost on the heather. Good laugh with good company.

Hi Tom

Excellent image, different from the usual black grouse shots we normally see, good reactions on your part to catch the action.

Composition is spot on, only small nit is with the whites, which look a bit blown out, but that is not a big issue with this shot. I often find I need -1 exposure comp with these types of birds (i.e. lots of black with a bit of white).

Well done though, worth the effort and the trip up North.

cheers

2:30 in the morning? Photography for masochists or what. Still great timing.

Hi Tom a species that I have images of only on slide it is a very nice image but the whites are a little hot, and as for getting up at 2:30 it looks like a species I won't be getting any more images of unlessthey are around later in the day.

Phillip.

Ps they used to be a good spot at Stockton and Teesdale for black grouse
