Some may think its a bit big in frame, but i'd rather have lots of subject, than lots of bland blue sky.
Several fruitless visits to Little Paxton in Cambrideshire until yesterday, this Nightingale arrived right smack in front of me and sang for about 45 frames.

EOS 1Ds Mk II 600mm f4 IS 1.4X and 12mm tube, RAW 1/400th f9 iso 200, Breezebrowser pro.

Its nice to see a Nightingale in the open, great image ! For me: its just a bit too big in the frame, blue sky or not.

Its a good image either way you look at it,If was abit smaller it would give possiblites of cropping,When Elliott Neep came over here a couple of weeks ago we went to a reserve at Lake Geneva and there were lots of nightingales around but they stayed in bushes so no chance of a clear view or shot so as Rene says nice to see a clear view :toast:

It is a bit big in the frame for some and for me, but seeing as I've never seen one, this is fine. To be very picky a more eye level shooting angle is preferable, but I know how elusive these are. Saying all that, I really like this image.

Hi Nigel

A very nice portrait of a difficult to photograph species. I don't mind the size of the bird in the frame, it shows the detail in the bird nicely and for some applications this is just what is needed. The only small alteration I might make would be to crop slightly from the left hand side so as to de-centralise the bird in a bit. Just a bit too central in the frame for me as is.

Good work though and worth the perserverence to get the shot.

Great beak action, never knowingly seen one myself. I like it.

Hi Nigel

Well only you could have a bird like a Nightingale come out and sit infront of you singing.
I do however know what you mean about several visits needed and determination has paid off.
Proportions here dont bother. Minor niggle is that lower bill is not sharp. :toast:

Hi Nigel

Glad to see your persistence paid off, it's not often you see a clean shot like this. A little big in the frame for me, but hey I wish I had taken it!

Nice to get one in the open, a touch large and central for my tastes but as you say it is a choice of subject or a lot of blue.....
