The much-recommended Noise Ninja has been upgraded by PictureCode to Photo Ninja. Lots of new features. Currently only available as a standalone application, requiring awkward exports/imports via TIFF. PictureCode promises a plug-in version in 1.1 later this year.
So far the highlight is a Shadow/Highlight Tool that's superior to Photoshop's.

Thanks for the heads up. Lightroom 4 does alot better for me than the Noise Ninja version that I have.

I have just processed a few images using Photo Ninja and I can say that I am impressed.
It is able to recover detail from blown highlights much better than LR4. The overall quality of the output on the few images I have tested are also superior. Of course without localised adjustments it is not a complete solution.
It is certainly worth trying their 2 week trial.
