Alone
Death Valley. Isolation. Nothing - just textures and sky. Art derived from my feelings of this place. PS work was traditional darkroom stuff, nothing more except the conversion and sharpening.

That is just beautiful in its apparent simplicity, Marc (but is really complex once you start to really get into it!).

I love the wispy fingers of the clouds and how the patterns in the sand dwindle to visual smoothness...

Art and beauty come together here in a fantastic composition with palpable textures and sublime lighting.

Amazingly, I like this better than your color landscape version from this location, the elegant simplicity conveys more emotion to me. The textures in the sand and sky are fantastic, and framing is perfect IMO. Well done once again.

That says a lot to me Zack, because the sunrise dunes shot was probably my favorite from the two week trip (that or the slot image). I'm glad to hear this was the time and place B&W and that you find the emotion I was trying to convey with this image. It was actually near sunset and the colors were quite nice here, but the B&W felt more powerful to me on this occasion. It's about a mile away from the other spot.

Marc,
Short and sweet, this "SCREAMS STOCK !" Superb image and details throughout! :toast:

Very well balanced and elegant B&W. Great combination of the elements and the light.

I particularly like the gently sloping lines of the dune crests and the wavy vertical lines in the FG sand. The sky and FG texture are nice as well. IMO, the top of the distant dune is too dark; I would assume you used a grad.

Excellent shot Marc! I love the pattern and rhythms picked up in this image. Your work continues to amaze me.

Now you're talking, Marc, I'm all over this one!

Marc;
I'm not much of a b&w guy, but this photo could find a place on one of my walls with very little effort, like driving the nail is all it would take. Great work.......

Mark W., actually the dune top is dark for better separation from the background. I used a grad, but made no effort to make the easy correction because I liked the effect. Everyone, thanks for commenting.

Marc, this is a sensational, fine work of art. Congratulations.

Marc,
I have nothing more to add that hasn't been already said. I could definatly find a wall in my house for this one.

Marc,
This is an amazingly strong image... B&W really has it's place...and this is smack dab in the center of it! I wouldn't kiss your ring, or call you Ansel Adams...but I do enjoy your work much more than Ansel's.
Looks like you had a very productive trip... :toast:
