Hi everyone, thanks for the response to my nightmare, well the good news is, 5D2 and my 17-40L is fixed, cost me atotal of $360. Took it to a place in Beaverton, OR called Advanced Camera Repair, since the camera and lens was out of warranty. Excellent place, the tech stayed late to get the water out of the camera immediately. got every thing back in 2 days with a 1 year warranty. Next thing tomorrow is getting Insurance for all my gear. from now on all the gear stays in the backpack when I cross stream & rivers. Thanks again.

That's great news. Keep that repair shop in your files. Not many would attempt the work, much less put in the extra effort. :toast:

That's a much better deal than Canon repairs!!

Danny, it appears the tech did right by you and saved your camera. I would be absolutely distraught if I dropped my 4x5.

Just a thought: If you do plan to cross bodies of water, it might be a good idea to have your gear in waterproof bags inside the pack, unless your pack is waterproof.

I'm glad to hear you're back in action!

Congratulations on the successful repair and the decision to buy insurance...

I'm so glad this turned out well for you Danny. Several years ago I dropped an almost new $1500 lens and broke it. I shipped it off to Canon and they fixed it for free even though "impact damage" was not covered by the warranty. Ever since then I've had insurance and it has definitely put my mind at ease. It is just too easy for camera equipment to get stolen or damaged.

Whew! Good news that you found a good shop and all could be fixed. I've had insurance for a long time and it does keep your mind at ease.

Glad it worked out well. Waterproof pack suggested by Preston is an excellent idea.
