The Remnant - Re:mixed
I previously posted the color version of this image in this forum. Just for grins I worked this up in B&W and I am generally pleased with the results.

I would appreciate honest comments and critiques. Please feel free to let me know if you think the processing is over the top.

From the master color file that I posted I converted this to B&W using a B&W layer in photoshop and adjusted the color channels to taste for a starting point with the contrast. I then used TK's luminosity masks to further control the tonality in the image.

This is in Palo Duro Canyon State Park.

Awesome sky! Like the way it seems to project outward from the mountains. Shouts "Look!"

I like the shot overall, but think both sides are too dark. Wondering if a square crop would would fix that and also work with this composition..

Try to bring up the left side of the remnant a touch too.

Thanks, Darren. I added a vignette on this so maybe I got a little carried away. I can back off of that and lighten the edges of this.

In my eyes and on my monitor it appears generally a bit dark.
I also wonder about the range of contrast. Nothing really pops...
The clouds are dramatic.
The potential texture of the gravel-rock could possibly be augmented??
I've played with B&W and it is another world. So, take my words cautiously.

I like it Brian. I really like the dark ominous clouds but maybe bringing the brightness up on the landscape on both sides should be considered. Trying to do more b/w myself so I enjoy seeing what others produce. Good stuff!
