While been to Rocky Mountain NP only once before, I set out to do some quick photos this morning and walked around the Boulder Brook area for a couple of hours. Beautiful place, I love the neatly confined brook in the middle of the forest. The photos that I got turned out pretty good, I'm reasonably pleased with them.

Also, while I was at Bear Lake for sunrise this morning I saw two photogs up at the "overlook" on the rocks, anyone on here up there this morning?

Nice work, Ryan -- I like the first image the best, for the same qualities you mentioned, a neatly confined brook running through the forest.

The first shot is outstanding!

Another vote for the fine first image. Maybe clone out the dark stick across the top of the creek?
Also, the reflection image of Bear Lake you posted in the fall reports had my mind boggled with various comp possibilities.

Yeah, #1 has so many more attractive elements, while the composition and close focus in the foreground are both really fine!
Agree with Doug's suggestion, too.

Thanks everyone for the comments. Doug, I'll play around with your suggestion. Typically I don't do much cloning, but will take your suggestion on this one. Is it a good thing that the reflection of Bear Lake boggled your mind? I'm not sure how to take that

Love the vertical Ryan. Nice background with the aspens and the fallen yellow leaves on the ground. I agree with the others on cleaning it up a bit.

Ryan, I was looking at all the vertical and horizontal comps one could take with a telephoto, in addition to the wider angle shot of your Bear Lake image, which is pretty nice btw.

My vote: leave in the stick in the vertical image. Keep it real. Were the red roots under the water in the bottom right corner of the frame really that red? Perhaps tone them down a hair? Also, while I certainly understand the appeal of the vertical image (which is very strong) I think the converging lines in the horizontal give it a wonderful sense of depth. Excellent work!

Glenn, thanks for your vote and yes, the red roots were very red in the original file but I don't recall if they looked that red to my eyes when I was there. I will tone down the reds a little though. Thanks for the suggestion, and thanks for the comments everyone!
