SMOKE, SMOKE, SMOKE. Color is coming on strong but no backgrounds.
Can't see the tetons from the outer road. Wildlife shooting ok.
Several nice Moose Bulls along Gros Ventre and Moose Wilson. Got in 2 hours of shooting on a great gray with some color behind it etc.
For the last few days there has been a black bear in a tree past Death Canyon putting on a good show.
Don't think the smoke will clear until the first snow. There are fires in all directions dumping into the valley.
So Long for now. Buy the way regular gas is at 3.85 a gallon ouch.

Do you know if the smoke is making it up into Yellowstone?
I'm paying $4.10/gal here in Washington so I'll trade ya....

Mark, looking at the webcams it is very smokey in Yellowstone too. There are a couple of fires going on near Canyon, Hayden Valley area.

Wildfires are one thing, and I know they have had a bad one this fall, but if conditions are again being impacted by controlled burns as has been the case the past few years, I hope folks will email the chamber of commerce in Jackson. Last year they were trying to collect messages to support their lobbying that the timing of these burns was hurting their tourist business. Thanks for all of the reports and updates, guys.

I was in the Tetons late last September, traveling from Washington State at some expense. Most of the time I was there it was so smokey from controlled burns that I couldn't shoot what I wanted to shoot. I learned my lesson and will not return until current policy changes, if it does. So, yes, tourism is impacted as I doubt I am alone in my thinking.

Fires have been bad in the NW this year. It looks like there are a couple of fires in Yellowstone area, but most of the smoke is coming from Idaho and Washington. Here are a couple of websites that will show the extent and locations of fires. For fire locations: http://inciweb.org/incident/3209/ and for smoke location and density: http://www.firedetect.noaa.gov/viewer.htm

I was in the Tetons last Sep/Oct too, but the smoke didn't bother me. Maybe I got there just in time. There were a few controlled burns, but I still found plenty of stuff to shoot and was happy with my images.
Sucks to hear gas is $4.10 in WA, as I'm heading there in 9 days. We're at $3.76 in IN.
