I am visiting the Brecons in a couple of weeks time and I will have two spare days to myself. Apart from Gigrin is there anywhere else to look out for? Red deer or red Squirrel perhaps?

In the past I have worked with the Brecknock Wildlife Trust, who cover this area. That was in spring, however, and different reserves will no doubt be better at this time of year. Why not take a look at their web site http://www.brecknockwildlifetrust.org.uk/ for suggestions or give them a ring?

P.S. The mountain centre south of Brecon is a great place for afternoon tea!

Hi Bob,

There is another Red Kite Feeding station south of Gigrin, not quite sure of the name at the moment, also if you do go to Gigrin just the other side of the town is Gilfach farm nature reserve with the possibility of Dipper (in spring many people go to Gilfach pre lunch for the redstarts and flycatchers, then do Gigrin post lunch)... The whole area is good to look out for Buzzard...

I am not aware of Red Squirrel or Deer in that area...

Powys though is a little bit of a trek from Brecon...
