Up here in Estes Park, the smoke in the air has been terrible all week and has made it very difficult to photograph anything other than close-up shots. How is the air down south in the San Juans? I'm wondering if I should head down there for a couple of days to get some fresh air and some of the aspen shots I need.

Very smokey in Steamboat too.

Just spoke with a friend in Crested Butte. They report no issues with smoke/visibility at this time, in town.
Don't know about the view west from Kebler

Thanks for the reports guys! I think this is helpful information for all of us.

I am heading to the Crested Butte/Lake City area after I hit send on this message. If I have cell coverage, I'll post the conditions.

In looking at the NOAA forecast discussion for Montrose, the wind may shift to out of the southwest over the weekend. The report notes smoke/haze through Friday.

I agree, let's keep this thread updated like the Fall Color thread.

McClure was the same.

In Gunnison now and although less hazy than the front range, is too much for crisp landscape images.
Not too worry; I have my macro lens.

Slightly hazy down in SW Colorado, but it's a good week (or more) before colors peak around the Telluride area.

Yesterday in Ouray it was pretty hazy... not bad, but hazy. Today was less hazy, but it's still there a little. It's really not that bad, but it's not crystal clear either.

If it's anything like Moab it's quite hazy/smoky. It's made for some decent sunsets but that's about it.

The muck is thick in Grand Junction. Grand Mesa is just a big blue blob from downtown Grand Junction.
It takes you to a lot of webcams around Colorado where you can see
what the sky really looks like.

Left Aspen early last night for the Flat Tops. Very smokey in both places, but the flat tips are peakig and present great intimate / close up shots whereas Aspen was still green.

Rather than posting pictures of how hazy it was in Aspen and Steamboat, I'll show you where it WASN'T too bad - Piney Lake north of Vail. Aspens are at or just past peak. I should have gone back for sunset - but maybe someone else can get up there. The alpen glow on the mountains is amazing from Piney Lake - deep, dark red most nights.
Sorry for the watermark - using the same one I uploaded to my FB page here.

I was in Breckenridge yesterday and today, overall hazy but not awful. Today being worse than yesterday. Leaving to go to Kebler Pass in a few minutes, will update tomorrow.
The haze actually made my night photos from Boreas Pass last night much better than I thought, there was a nice yellow/orange from the lights of Breck contrasting with the deep blue of the sky on Boreas. I was very happy with it.
