Immature Mute Swan
Thanks for the comments on my previous posts. This is from late last year. I much prefer photographing the immature birds rather than the adults as I think the plumage is much more interesting than the all white.

Certainly some very nice detail in the plumage, Robert, and the dark background suits the subject nicely.

Not sure that the young swan works as well against a dark BG as the adult does Robert although I understand your point about the plumage. Looks a little soft on my office PC so will have another look later in the iMac

That is a cracking image Robert and I tend to agree that the BG has suited the bird well.

Hi Robert, simple, but effective and the dark BKG works well with the subject. I think it could do with a slight CW rotation and perhaps a little too central, but personal choice. It could stand a little more selective USM, but no deal breaker. At -1 comp did you have to lighten the subject? What camera body are you using?

Steve, I used a 7D body. I agree re: the ccw rotation and usm. I underexposed the shot so that I could darken the background, but I must admit that -1ev was a bit much and I had to increase exposure a bit in post production. It is a bit central but it is full frame so I don't have anything to play with.
Thanks for the comments folks.

Slight nit covered re the rotation, but still a very pleasing swan shot, Robert. The image has an almost sepia quality to it.

Minor nits already covered. A very nice photo Robert. The juvenile plumage is nicely detailed and the pose is great. :toast: :toast: :toast:

Looks pretty striking to me. I like the black background.

Apart from the minor nits, this works well for me. Very nice detail and I like the black background. :wavey:
