My question is simple ... wood or steel? Are there any long term effects related to archival storage of prints in wood cabinets?

Wood cabinets don't sound like the best choice. Some woods release resins; some wood finishes out-gas. Good framers usually put some sort of buffer between wood frames and the artwork to prevent discoloration.

I am partial to wood furniture, simply because it looks so nice, but I agree with Mark that steel would be a better choice for archival storage.

I am of a like mind Preston. I'd like to get a nice looking oak flat file storage cabinet. Perhaps I'd just use it to store prints right off the printer while they out-gas, then store the prints long-term in archival museum cases.

A buddy has an elegant old oak map cabinet for print storage. It takes up a lot of room, but what a great first impression for anyone coming to look at his prints! It's much like this one that I found just now on google.
