Dug around deeper while finishing the images from the North Rim Labor Day. This is a blend of 3 images (two for dof, and one for sky exposure). See larger image.

#2 White Pocket reflected in a rainwater pool at sunrise/moonset Saturday morning. Blend of 2 images.

I really like that second image. The comp in the first image doesn't quite grab me right away personally, perhaps it's due to the small inclusion of sky, but I will say the blend looks great.

One person's pocket lint...
I really like all of the bizarre sandstone details in #1, but Peter makes a good point in that including the sky throws this off somewhat. I can't put my finger on why that is either.
#2 looks pretty good. The inclusion of the moon and its reflection is sweet. You might consider darkening the WP Butte a bit and adding some local contrast there.
You've got all the blending down to a science here. Good luck in the San Juans next weekend!

Thanks for the feedback. Does the sky in #1 seem just a little too dark?

Not at all.

Doug, those are very nice! I think the sky is perfect in #1. You're making me want to go to White Pocket so badly!

#1 is a remarkable bit of geology. I am not sure its the sky as much as the overall geometry / rules, or perhaps the side detail that is competing for attention. Its hard to place.
#2 There sure was plenty of water there. You caught this one well. Was that first morning?
Ryan - its worth the trip!

That first one is tremendous, love the textures and colors. #2 has really nice bands of color and I like the contrast betweeen the sunlit rocks and the foreground. Well Done!

The second one is just as nice and I like John's suggestion there.
