D7000 500mmf4 ISO 200 1/25s at f8 lens on bean bag resting on floor.
Taken on my hols on Mull earlier this year. Every morning and evening several rabbits from the nearby fields would come and feed in front of the cottage. Mornings gave a backlight so I tried a backlit shot which was taken by keeping the cottage door open and laying flat on the floor. It is a little large in frame but I was as far back in the cottage as poss with the old 500mm.
All C+C warmly welcomed as always.

Aaarrhhh! Nice bunny.
I would raise the shadow detail a tiny bit on the body(only a smidge mind)
and take out the two pale marks on the background.. Just my opinion- no big deal.

Great photo Nick. Sound advice from John, there is a little more detail lurking in the shadows.
Nick, if it was me, I would knock back any shadow detail in the bunny (darken) and allow the 'ring of fire'to do it's job, outlining the subject, hence being backlit.

Nick its very interesting with different points of view but i think i agree with Steve('ring of fire'),i do like the shot.
Must be seen large to fully appreciate. For me it is fine as it is. Yes, you could pull a bit more detail but going by the eye I don't think it would really benefit greatly. If you go the other route, I don't think that works very well because of the big difference between the foreground and background. Only one opinion of course.

Beautiful, I like it very much.

I like this and like the suggestion of detail still in the rabbit but I would lighten the eye area as it looks a little dead, just a touch mind. Apart from that really like this. Not sure the light is intense enough for the ring of fire but could be worth a play

Have gone for a "ring of fire" look.....what do you think?

Nick -Sorry - not for me . I feel the backlight would be just as evident with more shadow detail but thats just me-who am I
JR
Nick, the facing side for me would then be in shadow and therefore have little detail in it. Did you lighten the OP on the facing side, as viewed? At -2.33 EV comp you were, I guess aiming to go dark? For me this is more about mood and lighting not about detail, but just my take too. I personally think this now answers the brief.

Thanks folks.
JR...thanks for your honesty and comments,
Steve....... sorry but what is OP?
Phil.........The highlight I think is moisture on the bunnies whisker which I had not noticed but now it does draw my eye. Thanks for the tip and comments.

Thanks Steve......no the original image was quite bright even with -2.3 EV so I darkened it enough to leave some detail in the fur. I quite like the re-post although I also like the original post too, as you say it is all about creating a mood although it has been created artificially as the original image is how I saw the bunny.
