I am getting desperate. I have come to the conclusion that the area I found for deer is so underpopulated that there will be no fighting during the rut. Lots of roaring and posturing, but no fisticuffs! Again by the time I arrived the red deer were in place and soon scarpered, usually do before any light shows up. At least this week, after an hour of stalking, I got a few shots off. Enjoying the 1DmkIV, even if the shadows are noisy ;) Pretty much full frame.

Neil
Ours are nowhere near started yet. Need some cold nights.
Most of ours are commons like the does in your pic so they don't look too "pretty" !! Buck looks OK though Would have been really nice on his own but thats nitty Others will certainly not agree.
Cheers

Very nice image Neil although would have liked a little more space above the antlers. Nothing doing up here with our Reds just now, as JR said need some frosty weather but still mild & wet.

Personally i don't like the overlap between the buck and the background deer. Having said that it is a stunning buck and a great pose. They certainly are the most attractive deer
I'm inclined to agree with Phil and the light patch in the background is a bit distracting. However it looks a lot better bigger and it is indeed a fine buck.
