My first dabble into my Fall 2012 efforts. I'll never give up the grand vista shots but this season I went after the fall intimates and came away very happy with my initial results.

After a stunning night shooting Capitol Peak, I turned around and realized the best color was just behind me.

I'm not certain this one is a finished product quite yet. I'm thinking the top 20% still seems a touch too dark in the trees. I purposely added a slight punch of selective color to make all colors pop. Overall, the saturated colors is a direct result of last second alpen glow lighting.

I tried posting here on NPN but the colors came out too saturated after converting to SRGB.

Kane, I wonder if simply cropping off the upper part with the lighter sky and silhouetted trees would help the darker treetops you note (though it may seem too cropped then?). Did you use a GND? I like the diagonal angles of color.

Great color and light, Kane! I could do without so many dead leaves on the aspen, but that's pretty minor, and they are not deal breakers. Nice vision! I also shot a lot more intimates this year.
