Another pre-dawn wait at the forest clearing. The noise in the dark was simply amazing, rutting deer all around. This was the only fellow who came within range. so much so this is 2 shots in landscape, stitched and cropped back to portrait. Loving the 1DIV right now.

1DIV, ISO800, f4.

Fine looking stag Neil. Why did you stitch ? shooting vertical?
I would have thought landscape would have been good with a bot more space etc etc. Presume it was too close ?
Cheers

Thanks all.

John, it was way too close wth the bare 500 so reverted to a stitch. But it kept moving so only had 2 shots for this vertical. But as I never got a red before I was quite happy, they are pretty shy.

Superb image Neil and that is a rack and a half! Great job with the stitching, I would never have thought of doing that!

PS the rut is in full swing now, lots of stags bellowing in the corries today.

Clever image, very well done, wish I thought quickly enough to get the lower shot as well and stitch.

Thanks guys. Stitching is something I started doing when I bought the 500. Coming from the 300 or the 100-400 I often found myself stuck with facial shots or nothing. One evening in Africa I need f4 but 500 was 250mm too long. So I stitched. Hard part is to remember to take a few extra around the edges shots, so you have enough space to play with. :wavey:
