I spent Saturday evening and all of Sunday up in Flagstaff shooting the fall colors with Doug K as we traversed snowbowl road and hart prairie. The views and weather were great, although no clouds to make for a dramatic landscape. Both evenings there were clouds, but they never reached over the peaks. Here are a few of the images I shot over the weekend. Still hoping to get up there again before the leaves fall, but now just waiting for oak creek to turn.
The first image is from snowbowl as I found this little lupine still clinging to life.

#2 Timeless- Doug showed me this old run down cabin which I found quite interesting against the aspens

#3 some ferns against the aspens along aspen corner

#4 Layered aspens along Hart prairie road

#5 This was probably the best color we saw all weekend. The light really played some tricks and at one point turned the aspens nuclear

#6 And of course what is fall without an aspen abstract. Nothing spectacular, I just like the painterly feel of these shots.

Nice selection Peter. I like that you started with the low lupine shot- its a winner. Nice sun star with the ferns too. Looks like I was a day late in hooking up for the jaunt to Flag. Lets get together for the Oak Creek run.

A beautiful set Peter, really love 2,3 and 5. The gold in the cabin shot is unbelieveable!

Thanks Bob. The colors should remain decent until about thursday if the weatherman is correct. I'm planning to do west fork next weekend if I have the time. Likely will leave from PHX very very early.
Thank you Pam, I always preferred to shoot aspens backlit as they seem to give more color and it seemed to work for that cabin shot.
These are all really nice and make me miss living in Phoenix with such easy access to the Flagstaff area. I'm particularly fond of the photo of aspens and the old cabin. I know that area well but can't say that I've ever seen the cabin. Very cool!
I love the the texture of the lupine and fern shots, and the glowing cabin too. Nice work!

Really nice series, Peter. #3 is definitely my favorite. I like soft glow that most of the photos seem to have.

The lupine shot turned out well. Did you apply a slight Orton effect? The yellow glow in the cabin shot is real nice.

This is a real nice set, Peter. Love the glow on the cabin shot and the sunburst/ferns on #3.

Thanks everyone!
Doug, I applied an Orton layer to 2,3, and 5. The lupine shot I used a little fill flash for the foreground which softened it up a bit and opened up the shadows in the trees in the RAW file.

This is a wonderful set of images, Peter! I like 'em all, but #'s 3 & 5 really stand out for me. The layout of the hills in #5 (and those colors!) is exceptionally fine. I quite like the abstract of #6 and have to say that seeing blues in the scene is a first to me.
