I will be in Zion at the end of the month. (the 27th) This is the day before the full moon, so it should rise about an hour or so before sunset.
I have shot several moon sets at sunrise with the moon over the Towers of the Virgin, but I have never shot the moon rise.
Can anyone recommend a place to shoot to see the moonrise in Zion?

Rodney, I'm going there for the first time on the 15th for sunset, and this amazing app has been priceless to help you know exactly where and when the moon will rise. Pair that with the suggestions that folks will post, and you'll be set to go.

Thanks Paul. I have that ap. I was also looking for some first hand knowledge.

Also have several shots of the Moon from near the bridge over the Virgin River (unfortunately I don't have any of these posted online at the moment). Both areas will give you the moon in close proximity to sandstone cliffs.

Here's one taken from the bridge:

And if you turn around from the previous shot you get this. Too bad we had clear skies!!

Thanks for the suggestions. Great shot btw!
If there is good fall color, I think I will definitely shoot from the bridge. I have a winter shot there, and a spring, need a fall.
I would think that the Kolob Canyons overlook would be the prime spot, but it's a fair drive from the main canyon. Otherwise, you'll probably want to be either by the human history museum or somewhere south of the bridge, below the narrower main canyon.

Thanks Mark, yeah, that is too far away from where we are staying (Springdale) Have to pick up our Subway permit on Saturday, then find a spot for sunset and moonrise.
