Belted Kingfisher
Been awhile since I shared an image with you all so I'd like to change that with an image I made today of a belted kingfisher.

I finally saw a pair in the wild on Thursday and made a lousy documentary image from really far away just to prove I'd seen them. Today I returned after storms cleared the area and found a nice place to set up on one of the perches I'd seen them using on Thursday. After 2 hours in my temporary hide I was rewarded when one of them flew right onto the perch I'd singled out.

3 minutes was all I got but I did get several nice perched shots and a couple of so so flight shots.

Hope you are all doing well. Have a great week.

She is beautiful! This is my nemesis bird (one of many) so I always enjoy great shots.

Thanks!

Beautiful Wayne. We have a pair along the river here, but I haven't found a consistent perch that is accessible.

Great catch Wayne. The bird seems almost three dimensional.

Great catch, Wayne. The focus is spot on, what ISO did you use?

Thanks everyoneI appreciate the comments.

Tom this was shot at ISO 200, and if memory serves f/7.1 at 1/2000 sec. I used my 50D and 100-400 L at 400 mm tripod mounted with a cable release for this image. The bird was about 90 feet away so this is a pretty good crop.

If I get another chance I'll add a TC and see if I can't get in a little tighter without sacrificing sharpness.

Really nice work, Wayne. Glad someone has the patience to persue shots like this. I'd say you were well-rewarded for your efforts. Thanks for sharing.
