Fallow Deer
We,ve been busy this week building a new deer hide. I picked a spot away from dog walkers and mountain bikers and joggers etc, etc, , which is not as easy as it sounds.
I,ve had three sessions so far- a total of neary twenty hours and I have managed to get more Fallow Deer stuff in three days than in thirty years.
I have loads of portrait stuff but this one is the kind of shot I was after. Real wild fallow deer doing what they do naturally. These young bucks are feeding on acorns as they do at this time of year. Plenty of energy for the rut !
Strange how they run together with no sign of any agro. A master buck was going at it about 200 yards away, and these youngsters tend to creep around the edge of the rutting stand, with prickets etc hoping for the odd stray hind.

Thanks both. This pic means a lot to me . I first used this deer seat about 30+ years ago when one of my volutary wardens asked if he could put it up. I myself only used it a couple of times. He died last year. We found it in a fairly bad state recently and put it up on this new site, and spent a lot of time with camoflauge etc. It makes you realise how diffucult it was in the old film days.
I appreciate your interest.
Cheers

You sit in a tree? Great idea of course if you have the right incline in front of you. Very natural shot John, the only oaks I have with any fallow are right next to the.... bike path...
Keep up the hard work....and it is hard work is it not!
Really like this John, and is the hide up a tree?!

As already mentioned, it is a very natural looking shot, and only after the tree was mentioned did I notice the hide!!.

I do have permission to use the high chairs in the forest, but the hunters here are far from sophisticated on camo. A few bits of wood and bob is your auntie. The chairs tend to be REALLY high too.

Great camo job JR but how the devil do you get up there?
