Hi Everyone,
My name is Guy Nelson, I have been fortunate to live in Calgary Alberta Canada my whole life, where there is so much beauty within short drives from my home. My parents are the ones I give thanks to for introducing me to Nature at a young age. The outdoors is my calm, and brings a smile to my face. I am new to Digital Photography or Photography (2 years) for that matter. I have not posted any photos yet (a bit nervous) I'm not very good with computers or imaging software. I purchased Photoshop CS5 a few months ago, and that is something else. I know my first posting will be the hardest. Any tips would be appreciated.
My hope is to become a better Photographer with the help of Nature Photographers Network. I am here to learn and enjoy all the beautiful and inspiring Photos I have seen on this site.
Thank you for your time...
Guy Nelson

Guy, take a deep breath and then just do it - post!.
I well remember the anguish I had over my first one and I almost chickened out. Sure glad I didn't, even though I now know it was a mediocre image. NPN has the potential to improve your skills a lot but it takes some things on your part too - listening to the best advice you're given and learning from it, not repeating the same mistakes over and over, being honest and forthcoming about the post processing you've done to your images, posting your techs, commenting on the posts of others - regularly and often. Stuff like that.
Really, just DO it.

As Ron says - just take the plunge. I have posted many not-so-great images over the years (heck, I still post them) but have learned so much about photography, image processing, my photography subjects etc. etc. The education is invaluable and you will find so many people who are helpful and gracious and generous with their advice. You will also likely find people on here that you can meet up with and photograph - or who you will run into when out in "the field". It's a great experience, and while it may be tough at times to get the "bad news" about an image you liked, nothing feels better than seeing your work progress over time as a direct result of everything you have learned from the people here

Welcome and greetings Guy.
I know my first posting will be the hardest. Any tips would be appreciated.
The first post is always the hardest. You need to develop an emotional detachment from the image. Keep in mind people are critiquing the photograph not the photographer. Also remember opinions are like...er, certain body parts, everybody has one and they all stink.
From what I've experienced here, no fear about posting. Check out some of my posts.
I've received some excellent comments and suggestions.
Its actually interesting, to me, to hear how other photographers react to my images; what they like and would improve.
Sometimes I agree, sometimes I don't.
That's all fine.
In the end, the final image is mine, and only I can make the final decision.
Going through some of the galleries on here is a great help too. See what others are doing.
Without a word of a lie, there are some fantastic photographers on this site.
OK
I have one criticism already; there's no pics in your gallery.
(I like to snoop at others' work too. )

Hi Again,
First of all thank you all for your encouragement. I managed to post a photograph... Any tips on posting photos with CS5 would be wonderful.
Thanks again...

Welcome aboard Guy. I've been hanging around NPN for 6 or 7 years now but I was (as was everybody else as well) once in your shoes. I felt quite intimidated posting images at first, but the kind and helpful folks here welcomed me and the intimidation feelings quickly subsided. Just jump in with both feet and explore the water. You'll meet some excellent shooters who also happen to be very firendly and helpful.
