Made it out to Richland and Falling Water Creek, as well as the Buffalo area. The colors are pretty good right now along Richland and Falling Water Creek, but it looks like the wind has taken its toll on some areas along the Buffalo. Steel Creek looks like it is past peek and it is only October 20th! There are some colorful spots and lots of green still looking at the large landscapes but I am not sure where this is headed/
Here are a couple of shots from one of my favorite places on Richland.

It was nice to see some water flowing in Richland Creek after the drought we have endured since spring.

Looks like fall is early and nice. When I was in Oklahoma last month I suspected that it might be an early and nice fall there too. Hoping to make it back up there to find out.

Thanks for taking me back to Richland Creek with these images Tom. I sure had a great time with you all there back in '08. Looks like there is some nice, localized color happening.
Thanks for the update, Tom. A friend and I have talked about heading out to Arkansas to see fall color from Oct 26-31. Do you think the color will hold up in the Richland Creek area that long or do you think we will hit that area too late. Also, do you know about the color in other areas near the Boxley Valley including the Hawksbill Crag area? Thanks for posting the update!!

Brian, it is hard to say about the Richland area. I think it will last at least to next weekend. The Boxley area is more of a question? Tim Ernst posts almost daily with information in the Boxley area, you may want to watch his updates over the next few days. I mentioned that the Steel Creek area looks a little past peak, but other areas still have a lot of green in the landscape.
I made a trip this afternoon along the Mulberry River and it looks like this area may be peaking next weekend. It would be a good alternate, depending on the conditions in the Richland and Falling Water Creek watershed.

Very nice Tom. Your images always do justice to the subjects.

Ahhhhhh...lower screw-up I'm guessing. Also one of my favorite places. Great color from what I think is the most beautiful area in the state! Nice work, Tom.

Bill, you are correct on the spot, Lower Screw Up rapid, sometimes know as lower LSU. Someone had gone in there and cut a huge tree that was in there with a chain saw, that is supposed to be against Forest Service rules in wilderness areas.

Yeah, I saw that tree a couple weeks ago when I was there. I suspect one of the kayakers that float Richland Creek cut it out. There is also a huge tree across Falling Water downstream from the low water crossing that could cause some problems, but it may come out on its own if the water gets high enough.

The images look great too. I really like the composition of the second one but both are very nice.
