Holy smokes what a great year for Nikon! The one lens where nobody could give us a good explanation why Nikon never built, is finally on its way. Nikon is listening! Now I'm down to just one reason why my loyalty will remain with Canon. I like the 24mmtse lens option over anything Nikon has. Problem is, Nikons 24 tilt shift is way over due for an upgrade and I'm certain Nikon understands Canon's success with their 24 tilt shift. Don't make me jump ship Nikon!

The canon equivalent to Nikons new release would be releasing a 14-24mm. Not seeing that happen anytime soon.

I'm glad to hear this. I recently rented the 70-200 VRII which is an excellent lens but it would sure put a big dent in the budget. I like the price on the 70-200 f4 a lot better - provided that it is at least close to the 2.8 in terms of performance.

I have a good feeling this lens will be everything we want it to be, or at least on par with the Canon 70-200 f4, which is basically on par with the 2.8 version. My only concern will be weight. Nikon hasn't shown in the past that they value light weight equipment. going for more of a "well built" feel. Because if it's heavy then everyone knows its a better lens right?

If its heavy for a 70-200 f4 it better be tack sharp!

This is great news as I'm almost convinced that a Nikon D800 system is the way to go for me. I'd been looking at the 70-200mm f/2.8 to supplement the 14-24mm and 24-120. This is an interesting development.

Kane - out of interest, what sets the Canon tilt-shift apart from the Nikon model? The sound fairly similar on paper. (I've never used a tilt shift, so don't really know what to look for on these types of lenses.)

Hi Stephen, Ive never shot the Nikon version but from what Ive read the lens renders too much distortion and more distortion than most 24mm primes. The Canon version basically has zero distortion, is prime sharp and is considered the best built tilt shift on the market. I think they run about the same price however one can take advantage of the Canon rebate program about 4 times a year.

I thought i heard a rumor about Samyang having a tiltshift soon. They usually have pretty good lens for the money from what I've heard. I am looking forward to seeing that. This 70-200 F4 is great news. That was the one lens I missed when I switched to the D800.
