Castlewood Cyn - Fall
1 - Predawn view along Cherry Creek.

Last Wednesday I spent the morning at Castlewood Canyon SP. My first visit in almost 20 years! I must say the fall colors were impressive.

Thanks again, Morris, for suggesting where to go before the park gates open.

They're all nice but that third shot is just stunning!

A very impressive collection, Bill! Love the comps in all of them as well as the light and color.
#1 is just an excellent landscape image from concept to capture to presentation.
#2 and #3 are so unique and engaging.
And, I like the order your comp brings to the grasses in #4, and then the backlighting is great.
All so different, I can't pick a favorite out of these. :toast:

Outstanding colors and compositions in all of these. I've been to Castlewood Canyon and never came home with anything nearly as nice as these.

Glorious set Bill. I really like the pastels in #1 but #3 is the jaw dropper for me.

I like the composition and the combination of color in the first image and I also like the arrangement of the elements in the third image. I think the second image would shine at a larger size - unfortunately the details get lost in a smaller size. I like the fan like patterns in the last image as well. The winner for me...I would say the first one.

I like the arching trunks in #2, but to me, the backlit grass in #4 is my choice. The colors along Cherry Creek of #1 are indeed nice.

One, two and three are spectaular. You really have some nice popping color in all of these images. I love the super cool colors in your first shot.

Fabulous work all around, Bill. I agree with Kane that the first 3 are spectacular. No way to pick a favorite, but I'd love to see #2 printed large.

Hey Bill- Excellent work! #3 is great. Missed CC park this year- on the bucket list for next year.

What a wonderful series! These are all excellent, and I like #4 just as much as the rest.
#3 truly is a work of art. Good eye for seeing that composition.
#1 seems to have a blue or cyan cast. Colors pop a lot more when it's corrected.
I had never even heard of Cottonwood Canyon, but it sure looks like a fine place to make images. Very good work here, Bill!

John, you are correct, #1 still has too much of the morning blue cast remaining on the rocks.
My only excuse is that the original raw conversion was a "smurf" blue, so I had already removed quite a bit!
Is this revision more to your liking ?

FYI - Castlewood Canyon is a state park about 30 miles south of Denver.
When we visited with our kids, about 20 years ago, it was midday on a hot and crowded summer weekend.
I found nothing to justify another 100 mile roundtrip from our home.
However, this fall trip has totally changed my perspective. It is a fine place for intimate compositions.

Thanks for the feedback, everyone.

I am surprised that so many found #3 as their favorite.
The mossy stream bank and pine needles were very appealing at first sight, but finding a composition was tough for me.
I shot two dozen different angles, and left not sure that I would keep any of them.

Brian, yes, the small jpeg does not do #2 justice.

Perfect, Bill.
As far as I'm concerned, it's the scattering of maple(?) leaves in the water with the pine needles that grabs me. Wouldn't have worked nearly as well without them.

Awesome set !
