I'm currently in Norfolk, and the weather has been dire. Thick fog for almost all of today and yesterday, and mist is forecast for most of tomorrow. There was a superb day's birdwatching yesterday though. Thousands of thrushes dropping out of the sky, over 100 robins, many brambling and goldcrests, several ring ouzels, plus a Red-flanked Bluetail today!
This was taken in a short period where the fog lifted at Salthouse.
Techs:

Nikon 200-400mm f4 VR
On beanbag in frying pan

Oscar, I love the colours in this, a cracking image! Had the full reflection been visible as well, it would have been very hard to beat. A really nice image though, I'm quite jealous of this one!

Oscar the bird watching sounds great ! i really do like this image your certainly showing some of us how to do it,great shot.
Enjoy the rest of your trip.
A beautiful image Oscar. Lovely subtle colours with the background complimenting the colours of the beak and legs. I don't mind the whole of the reflection not being there, it works well as it is.

A beautiful image Oscar, you certainly know how to tick all the boxes with your images. I'm curious about the frying pan though....is this Oscars secret weapon?

BTW Oscar almost tame sanderlings at Bacton, past cromer. Bit of a drive from salthouse i know. They were being fed on the sea wall and were within a few feet. Could tempt to teh beach for a better backdrop I am sure if you moved their food, just a thought

That's another quality shot, Oscar. Enjoy Norfolk, any shots of the Bluetail?
Paul, I have a couple with a full reflection in. The hard bit is because my camera's top focus point isn't right at the top of the frame, I couldn't focus on the head, and keep the reflection in. I would have zoomed out, but I had the camera in a lenscoat rain cover, so that became a bit tricky.
Nick, the frying pan isn't anything special! I just put a beanbag in a frying pan, and then rest the camera on top of that.
Paul, for wildlife, yes, the weather was dire! Very poor visibility, and not exactly bright! I'm not a landscape photographer, so couldn't enjoy those benefits Thanks for your info re sanderlings. I'll have to try them another time!
Andy, yeah it was good despite the weather, and yes I went to see the bluetail. Got a couple of shots, but it was too far away and very dark under the trees it was in.
