Peek-A-Boo Sky
This was taken in Peek-A-Boo slot in Utah, off Hole in the Rock Road (don't know if there is another Peek-A-Boo somewhere since the name is so apt!!)

I did this slot with a family of 5, and so this is handheld, with onboard flash using my Canon 7D. Suggestions for further processing are always welcome.

ISO 250, 1/80s, f/14
10mm Sigma

Nice one.

I was mesmerized by how good the lighting was. Handheld with a 7D? Slots are dark. Sky is bright. Huge DR.

Then I said - ahh flash. And I reread your post and of course flash. But its a really lovely shot.

Maybe if you can tone down those flash areas just a bit. I wont tell.

Now you got me wanting to browse galleries to find out how much flash is used in these slots. Damn!

I really like the lighting and color in this one, although I find the dark area at bottom center a little distracting. Cool shot nonetheless.

Thanks, everyone. Yeah, the dark twisty area in the bottom center did not get illuminated by the flash, and I figured the noise would be too much if I tried to mitigate it. I'll play with it and see what I can do while I tone down some highlights. I've been telling myself it just adds mystery, but maybe I'm just lazy ;-).

Shadows lightened a tish, highlights pulled back, sky ever so slightly darkened. Is this better than above?

The adjustments to the canyon walls are a very nice improvement. I am thinking that the lighter sky may work better..

I agree with Doug on this. The sky is competing; going back to the lighter sky would be good.

Thanks, it looks like the hue shifted in the sky too (seeing that in a different monitor now). I'll turn back history on the sky. ;-)
