A British photo mag I subscribe to, mentioned that there was a rumor going around that Canon would announce a 46 MP camera at the PhotoPlus show in NYC. As the show has concluded, I assume no new camera/sensor was announced. Does anyone know if this camera is in the works and will be announced within the next few months or is it just idle speculation?

You can check out canonrumors.com for more info. You will probably have to scroll down a bit to find the info. No one really knows for sure. Just speculation at this point.

Peter, no 46MP announcement last week. The concensus so far is early Spring 2013. The engineers are probably still trying to sort out how to capture low-noise light on cells that have to be made small enough to FIT on a 46MP sensor. These are the same guys that still insist on putting a Direct Print button on the 5DX series, lol.
We actually have that huge MP capability already... lose the WA lens and take three vertical shots pano-style with a 50mm and stitch 'em. On my 5D3 that's over 50MP even with the overlap, lol!
