Walked through the literal forest of Ponderosa Pines yesterday near Sisters I spotted this solitary cedar. To my surprise, a small cedar bough was caught within the rough edges of the bark.
Ned,
the comp and textures are really good here. Isn't it fun to find these things out in the field? The only thing I'd change is the color of the bough...it should be a little greener, if possible.
Hi Ned - I like your composition and think that it could only use a touch more contrast, at least the way it's showing on my monitor, and agree with Rick that the cedar leaf could use a bit more green saturation. Overall, very pleasing to view!
Thanks for the comments. The small branch was very difficult to expose for. Looking at it in real life under the actual conditions, it really was this light - plus the sun hitting it brightened it quite a bit. About all I did during post processing was to pick the color yellow in the adjustment dialogue and push the tint over to about a +6 . I noticed that going any further started to affect the lightest parts of the tree bark, and I wanted to avoid doing that. One thought I had was to maybe convert this image to B&W as an option as I was shooting it. Note: I also gave it about half the local contrast I usually do, but pushing that might help a little more as Geoff suggests. I will give it a try. Thanks for all of the constructive comments on this composition.

I agree what others have said about the color of the twig. Nonetheless good eye on spotting this comp.
