Marty, given the size, shape and type of antennae, I would call it a midge. There are lots of midge species and it would take a dissecting scope and a good set of taxonomic keys to figure out which one. They look a lot like mosquitoes but lack the proboscis and have larger antennae. Good subject!
You can't follow Don around very long - your brain would sizzle and explode. He is a non-stop encyclopedia of info for sure. And do be careful if you go hiking with him in the early springtime, because everly few minutes just as you are stepping over a log he will yell out "Rattlesnake!" - and just about the time your heart starts to pump again, he will finish his sentence with "Fern."
Believe me I've noticed! Heck, he's forgotten more about fauna, flora & geology this week than I'll ever know!! As always, thanks Don for all the help you and your books have given me, it is greatly appreciated!
Thanks guys but it's no big deal, really. I'm just glad that I occasionally have something to contribute to this impressive regional forum. Now, if all of you would just think hard and focus on sending a decent amount of rain to central Missouri, that would be great!

Has anyone noticed the amount of knowledge Mr. Kurz has? Maybe I could follow him around for a few days and some of his knowledge would rub off.
