Seems a little slow around here so I'll post one before I post my collection from the trip.

Another from Zions Narrows. I know, another depressing title!

Late afternoon light. I probably had about another hour and a half of light before total darkness.

Comments and Critique welcome.

Interesting to see something with a cooler tonality from this location. I think in this regard you have shown a unique side to this frequently photographed location. Excellent comp and processing. :toast:

I like the composition, but in my view this image has gone beyond dark and moody and in fact is seriously under-exposed. I doubt any calendar editor would consider it in its current form.

Hi Glenn, I'll lighten up a few zones and see if that makes a difference. I'm not exactly sold on the image is "seriously" under exposed but its certainly dark and moody, which is how I intended the image. It's why I added the black frame because against a white background the image shows potentially too dark for some eyes. In a dark room I think the image looks really nice, but in reality I understand we don't look at prints in a dark room!

The blue throws me at first, but i think i'll warm up to it, Kane--it's a bit different and i like that!

I like the cool blue palette of this one. My first thought was the dark area on the right was too blocked up, but also realized that a lot more detail would show on a black background. I also like the dark mood it conveys. And, no, it's not a calendar piece, unless it was for a "Lord of the Rings" calendar. I do like the first version for the purposes of an art piece. With the dark areas opened up some, I think it would make a fine large print to be explored visually and emotionally.

I really like this shot, especially the different color palette than you normally see. The darkness on the first one seems fine on my monitor, though I know the appearance can vary a lot depending on the monitor, even if they're calibrated.

I prefer the revision.
Your "blue" interpretation offers a welcome alternative to the usual fare.
