IceCapades 2012
My semi annual trek to Green Mtn Falls--first ime ive been up there when there's no snow on the ground--pretty scary especially since the Waldo scar looms in the distance...
Anyhow, i played with my new toy--the 100mm f2.8. Awesome lens, just gotta get used to the shallow focus!
Here's catamount creek--i posted a horiz version in the landscape forum, both toned conversions.

Weird icy abstract...

One more, toying with the macro stuff. Hope to get back after some snow falls, the trail is much more treacherously fun in snow!

Nice work! I do prefer the horizontal version of #1. I do like the abstract qualities of #2 quite a bit. Doing something with the bright patch in the lower center would be an asset, IMO. #3 is almost like two images with the sharp left and the smoother right side. I could see cropping the right inward to the right of the center leaf in order to highlight the 'sharper' side, which is the more attractive side.
You sure put that new lens to good use!

Looks like Santa came early Stan - nice new toy. The second image is my personal favorite, but can't articulate why, just is I guess. Driven past Green Mtn Falls several times, thanks for the inspiration to stop. Better in snow you say?

A very cool (Ha, ha, I crack myself up!) series, Stan. The first one is clearly the strongest, but I do like that abstract #2 a lot, too. And, the 3rd one is so you and your different photographer's eye. Super work! :toast:

Russell--not better, just more winterlike!

Really like 1 and 2. It's kinda funny, I live within about 4 miles of the place and have never gone over to photograph it because of the parking issues. Where do you park, down at the parking lot at the entrance to the road that ends at the trail head?

Don, i park at the Gazebo and do a loop up to catamount and down crystal (boulder). There's a neat house on the road up with an alien face in the window--i'm wondering if it's the famous dude who keeps seeing Bigfoot up there...

# 1 and 2 Stan are superb. Your first version in the Landscape Gallery is Fine Art.

Number 1 is by far my favorite, great composition, really sculptural ice, and perfect choice of shutter speed for the flowing water, well done as usual!

These are all very nice images, Stan, but I prefer #1, especially the horizontal version. The DOF, choice of shutter speed, and color all make for a really nice image. I bet that looks good in print.

Absolutely stunning.

I like the third image most, with possibly darkening the brighter orange needles some.
#2 reminds me of colorful 60's paisley stuff, nice also.
