Hi All,
The focusing system on my Canon 15-85 has stopped working. This is not only the autofocus but also the manual focus. The focus ring rotates, but nothing happens optically, even the focus scale does not move. Every now and then, it "catches" and then it will work fine for a short while.
It's with Canon now for a service estimate, and we'll see how that turns out, but I am disappointed with the lens: about 2 years old (out of warranty) and 1000 or so exposures. No fall, no dusty environment, no water, no extreme temperatures, no rough handling, etc.
Any similar experiences out there with this lens or another Canon lens. Thanks. Roger
I had a similar problem with my 24-105 and sent it out for repair. Canon indicated that one of the rings used to assemble the lens had come loose and all that it needed was tightening. I paid for a clean and adjust, and got back a fully working lens.
MIke.

Mike,
Thanks for your reply. It's much appreciated. Hopefully, it will be something similar for my lens: tightening at an adjust and clean cost.

Does seem very quick for no major abuse. I've had good luck with Canon repairs on a couple of dropped lenses over the last two years, the price may be a bit high, but in both cases I had the lenses back in hand with 7 days (including shipping). BTW, I took the body that was attached to one of those lenses when it fell to a local repair shop and it took a month and two tries to get that repair right.

Hi Mark, that hurts when camera and/or lens falls. Happened to me in my 35 mm days, but not with DSLR. Good you got the lenses back quickly (though unfortunately not the camera). I took this lens to the camera shop and they sent it to Canon. I was told 4 - 6 weeks, but I am hoping for a lot quicker than that.

Roger, The quick turn arounds happened when I used Canon online for repairs (http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/consumer?pageKeyCode=onlineRepairLanding). I don't know if you have something similar in Canada.
