Just messing about before the rain game in, however the guys have been doing a good job on keeping the numbers up. Could tone down the heather in the BKG, but happy to leave as is.

All I can say is, bloody hell that's a top quality photo!
Superb Steve, was that the mk2 500f/4?

I agree with Paul, lovely quality, especially around the head.
OK guys, firstly meant to say, thanks to all who commented on the last posting.
Paul, MKI, the trusty workhorse, however dear old Canon very kindly made a few tweaks to the kit since this was taken, so... May go to the MKII in due course only for the weight gain.
Cheers David, this may bolster your comment, however away at present, so doing this remotely.

Amazing detail for such a close crop Steve. It's not just the weight that Canon have tweaked though! Would love to see the results with a 500mk2 or 600mk2 on your 1DX.
Well I might take the new 500 out in Feb/March for the Snowy owls if I can twist Canons hand, but they may feel 3 weeks is too long, who knows.

I'm sure it will be worth the arm twisting!

Superb colour and detail and the cropped head is one of the best I've had the pleasure to view. Thanks for sharing.

Unusual image Steve and great POV, like the lighting and I do not mind the OOF heather in the BG.

John's spot-on Stevo - I thought this when you sent me the full rez earlier.
Nice processing though
One thing though, do a 50% bright pixel selection, jump it to a new layer in screen, black mask, then with a smallish low opacity brush just sculpt the side of the head slightly, then move to the eye and tweak it in the darker areas.
'Makes me want to dash out and get a 1DX' - Ironic Bob, Canon just asked me if I wanted the 1DX, 5DMKIII and the new MKII lenses to play with, shame you are on the wrong side of London.

There is always the Central Line Steve. Coincidently I have just signed up to the CPS offer to try out the two bodies. The 1DX is a lot of dosh but I am thinking about upgrading one of my 5dmk2 bodies to the mk3

[i]'just sculpt the side'[i/] Why do I get the vision of Tony Hancock in The Rebel when you say that? Will look at it when I get back.
