The festival is a fun time to play with colors and shapes. This is the first Erie Balloon Festival I'll miss. I've been going from the beginning. We are moving from Erie to Pagosa Springs next week.
Actually, Scott, the balloon festival it is a part of the Erie Town Fair ...

...which started in Old town in the late nineties, I think. Most everyone knows about the town fair but the balloon launch is usually way-done by the time most folks wake up.
Vendors line the streets of old town for the weekend. There is an auto show of sorts and there is also a fly-in with some pretty cool aircraft at the Erie Air Park.

Ken - thanks for the information. I'll have a look around this year and hopefully get a few interesting photos.
Thanks for the info Mike and Ken! Would love to check this out, but I'll be on my way to Utah for 9 days! (woohoo). I've been to the balloon fest up in Steamboat before, and man, talk about photos ops. I love it when they do the burn at night. I'll have to remember this for next year for sure !
I've attended the balloon launch since 2002. It really is a nice event. There is also a "fly-in" at the Erie airport a few miles away I usually head over after the balloon launch.
