Zion Color
I finally finished working on my photos of Zion taken Oct 30 thru Nov 4. The color was fabulous and there were clouds on a couple of days, which is unusual in Zion. This was the ninth or tenth time I have shot sunrise at this spot and the first time the light was truly spectacular. The cliffs lit up well before sunrise, as you can see by the dark sky and moon. There was a light cloud cover which I think reflected light from the not yet risen sun back down. At any rate, it was big fun. There were only three of us present (it was a Thursday morning). Two days later on Saturday morning there were more than fifty people, complete with the usual bickering over blocking views, etc.

There certainly was a whole lot of water vapor in the air during that time. I remember being up there the weekend before for the Full Moon. With no apparent clouds I decided to retreat to my patio dining place early only to see a gorgeous pink sky and later the moon rise over the Watchman - though heavily halo'd by all the moisture. I originally planned to be on the south side of Angels Landing to use it as counterpoint but thought the moon would finally get over the ridge well after the bus service - but heh..

Nice set of photos - looks like you caught a mean alpenglow out there (I suspect by the visitors center?) My only (just me) suggestion would be to tighten the shot and maybe even lose the moon.

Your gallery has some nice shots. Looks like you had fun! And caught Zion just before the snowy/windy weather came.

This is real fine, Tony!
And you have many other fine ones in your gallery. Looks like you had a fun and highly productive trip! Thanks for sharing these with us.

Nice shot! I, too, have shot there probably half a dozen times and I have never seen more than 4 or 5 people. I typically avoid going to popular parks on the weekends and your story tells me why... 50! wow, nuts!

I love the colors here, Tony. I think you could get away with brightening the trees just a bit, to show off even more color.

Wow. Spectacular light. You definitely picked a great day to be here. The stark difference between Thursday and Saturday seems apparent on many levels!
