We had the mother of all storms last week with thunder and lightening lasting for almost 3 hours. I unplugged the computer and the TV and after a short time the electricity supply was hit, not to be reconnected till the following day.
A good excuse for an early night, and I was soon tucked up in bed, smugly thinking what a clever chap I was to have unplugged all the equipment!!!
After the power was reconnected the following day we discovered that the phones were out too so a call to BT revealed that the engineer would call within 5 working days.
The moral to all this _ Don’t forget to unplug the bxxxxy phone too, because after the engineer reconnected the phone yesterday we discovered that the computer modem was fried!!!
Best wishes
Phil
You are semi lucky that the modem fry didn't go right to the motherboard too. We get quite a few of these incidents every year and people always forget to unplug their modem lead too. Sometimes the surge can fry motherboard components through the PCI modem card.
