I'm looking for a Christmas gift for a photographer friend who wants a camera strap that does not hang around his neck. If you have any experience with such a strap, I would greatly appreciate your recommendations or advice. Thanks in advance!
Dunno if this will qualify for "not around the neck" Carol, but we rely on the extra long straps from Tamrac so we can put our head and one arm through the strap, leaving it hanging at our side rather than in front. In that position you can swing it around behind your back when it's in the way (a boon for walking), as well as carry two cameras (one on each side) when circumstances demand.

The Black Rapid R Straps are pretty nice, in part because they attach to your camera or lens at a single point (with a screw), which makes it much easier to carry over one's opposite shoulder while still having quick access for easy shooting.
Can't say I use them for landscapes, but when shooting weddings, it's nice to carry two bodies at one time.

Thanks for your responses so far. I have checked out the straps that Kent and Max referenced, but they both attach to the tripod socket which does not work for a landscape photographer who uses a tripod. I did some more research and found the BosStrap Generation 3 Sliding Sling Strap which does not attach to the tripod socket. Does anyone have any experience or knowledge of this strap???

I don't use straps... But I've heard good things about Upstraps.
