Here is a shot of the arch at Buzzards Roost that I took well before the sun made its appearance Saturday morning. Ever since getting the D800E body, I've wanted to get out for some star photography and maybe try a little light painting. Saturday turned out to be the perfect time. Tom Kennon and I tried shooting from various angles, while the other person painted with a headlamp. I think we both had a lot of fun with it, and I hope to do more in the future.
The trail to the arch is easy for the most part, but can get a little confusing near the end when it's pitch black. We overshot the place where you drop down the hill to the arch by about 400 feet the first time, but were able to locate ourselves using my GPS that had the arch landmarked. And thanks, Tom, for not mentioning anything about me walking off and leaving my tripod and cap on the ground after I checked the GPS.
Merry Christmas to all!!!

Bill, great view with just the right amount of light painting. It was a truly epic adventure!

I like this Bill. I'm not a big fan of light painting but here you've handled it with subtlty which I like. Sounds like a great time you two had. Thanks for sharing.

Great job Bill. Nice combination of light painting and the stars.
I was there Friday morning but didn't get there early enough for the stars.

You guys are real men! Great capture of the stars, arch, and pending sunrise. On my bucket list also.
