Yellowstone Sampler
I spent a couple days at Jackson, a couple more at Old Faithful. I was so intnet on visiting Yellowstone that i didnt really plan things too well from a photography perspective--but it was a lot of fun just seeing the park in all that beautiful snow... Just getting around to processing the shots, here's a few fom the parks. This is the weather for most of the trip (including the 760 mile drive to and from... )
note to self: rent 500mm lens next time...

Interesting to see Yellowstone in the snow. The blah skies make these images fall a bit flat for me. And to think I was going to buy your ebook! Okay, I still plan to buy it, but I expect a tornado, a rainbow, lightning, and a dramatic sunset in the next shot you post.

Rainbow Unicorn too. I think Doug K promised that for the North Rim group trip :)

Stan, I think there is some promise in #1 and #5. #2 has an interesting comp.

I really like 1,2 & 6 and it's pretty cool that you just went with an open mind photographically. Why not when the place has been so heavily photographed? Yellowstone is very often overcast in winter and I think you need to have those images to support the cinammon light shots. Snow doesn't come without overcast and #2 tells a lot of the GYE story. Looking at the first image again - it's absolutely stunning for the feeling of solitude.

Great images, Stan, I am really liking #5 and #6.

I like 6 the best. The ground/snow in 2 and 3 (also the steam) could use some brightening up while keeping the clouds/sky the same.

The first two images really stand out to me. Love the feeling of isolation of the first one and the wide angle of the geyser pleasingly defies what we normally do around hot springs: try to zoom in or look for abstracts. That second photo is sweet. The bison and Teton images look a tiny bit blurred to me, but hey, it's cold out there and I wouldn't blame anyone for a little shiver. It looks like the visit was worth it. Who needs a plan anyway?

I like the image from the Tetons the best. It alone has nice light. Sorry the weather wasn't more cooperative for you.

Stan, I like the simplicity of the first image, and then #2. I think #2 could use some more brightness and less blue.

I really like #2 of this bunch. The color palette is excellent.

Thanks folks!
John--i actually got a couple real nice shots from the Tetons--will post one in a couple days.

I really like #2, Stan. The way the pastels in the sky complement the subtle colors in the geyser is lovely, and the whole image has a wonderful wintery sens of peace with tinges of gloom and menace. When I was young I used to go to Yellowstone in winter all the time, and that shot really makes me miss it.

Nice set, good to see you so active again. How was winter access to the park?
