Ocean's Power
With this photo, I attempted not to capture a literal image of the ocean, but to capture the feeling and emotion of being in the waves.

After an afternoon spent at the beach with friends, eating hot dogs and watching kids play, I grabbed my tripod and stood in the waves for a bit. There really were no options for foreground, there were no rocks, so I decided to experiment with zooming and panning with the waves. For this shot, I zoomed the camera out as a wave came at me, "following" the wave.

Thank you to my Dad, Richard Sogn, for renewing my NPN subscription as a christmas present!

Nikon D300, 1.3 sec f/18, 18-200mm.

Erik, this is really great for getting a feel of being very close to the ocean! I like the abstraction and the wintery, almost monochrome palette. Great experiment with imaginative results.

Thanks, Dad, for re-upping Erik's membership. Nice to have him back!

Nice abstract Erik. I appreciate the description on how you captured it too.

Very nice abstract image Erik. I feel like I'm moving when I look at this. Well done.
