Elan - pied fly enviro
For openers, an environmental shot, one twig cloned out to give space in front of the bird. Eye highlight enhanced slightly, probably should have gone slightly tighter with the crop, but I wanted to retain the enviro. element and spiders web

1DsII, 500F4.5L + 1.4tc, no flash, ISO 400, 1/125s at F8, tripod & Sidekick, processed in CS2

Nice to see one of these, looks like it has found some sun to sing in. Nice back lighting and I like the enviromental aspect.

Good one.... , I keep telling people to get the environment as well as the isolated c/u, gives you so much more information and you are covering all bases...

Very nice enviro, just a bit to squarish fo me. Maybe just cropping a bit from the bottom. Wonderful light :toast:

Hi Mike

I also like this shot, it shows the bird in it's environment very well and I for one like this type of shot. Filling the frame is nice but I agree with Phil that it is also good to try to place your subject into the context of it's environment, often this makes for a much more interesting image.

Only nit is the heavy dark area on the right hand side is a bit distracting, I would be tempted to try cropping to a squarer format and removing the dark area. Not sure if this would be an improvement or not, it might make the bird too central then. A fine image is it stands though.

Looking forward to seeing more of your shots, I have never visited the Elan valley or Gigrin farm but I am beginning to think I should.

cheers

Sean
