Are there any Photo opportunities on a Cruise? Shall I take my Photo Gear? or my iPhone Camera will do the job?
I am going with my family on a New Year Celebration Cruise to the Bahamas.

...with my family....

That component of the trip will likely be the big factor. If your photography is already a part of the routine on family trips, it won't be a ball and chain on events. But with the limited time ashore in any location, you could face a rebellion if camera time interferes. Kind of a personal call, but I'd ask the family about it, too.

We see folks with the full array of photo ambitions and gear come off cruise ships in Kodiak and elsewhere. Most shore stops are from mid-morning to mid-afternoon, so you don't get the sweet light. You also don't get far from town for nature shots, or at least not for long. Even with "pro" gear rather than smart phones, I see mostly "snapshooting" going on. If you're serious about street photography and MIN photography sans tripods, you'll be happy with the pro-grade gear. If you buy the side trips to nature preserve and such, you'll also be happy.

Here's another alternative, which I've been experimenting with- a good grade of pocket camera. No high shooting rates, for sure, but surprisingly good results when you put thought into comp and such. I have to say I've relished the unburdened sight seeing and long walks on our most recent trip. Yeah, I've missed the big gear more than once. But yeah again, I've been more than a little pleased with results when circumstances were right for the pocket camera- and certainly better than I've ever managed with a smart phone. THIS is a link to one photo example. And the Coolpix 100AW isn't even a "good" pocket camera in terms of user controls!
