Cool Morning at Dream Lake
I decided I needed a change in altitude. I met Charley Caudle at the Dream Lake trail head this morning at 6:15AM and up we went. We didn't get the morning clouds I'd hoped for but I kind of like the composition even though I was laying on the ice for a half hour to get a series of shots from this area.

Looks nice to me, Russ. I like the abstract reflection in the ice/water in the foreground. I'd say it was worth the ice nap!

I like the perspective of focusing more on the Flattop. I was surprised to see clear ice. I was there a month ago and the ice was totally different. Well, you may not have had great clouds but two days ago I was up taking Hallet and Flattop from Storm Pass and had to deal with jet contrails. Frustrating for sure.
The only critique of your image is the large rock in the foreground. For me its just a bit distracting. Oh, by the way, did you even need snowshoes?

Foreground rock works for me. That ice looks like its setting up well for macro ice shooting. Did you head out onto the ice? How did it look?

Interesting--looks almost like water instead of ice.

A great collection of images, you have some really nice, clean post processing.

Ken, no snow shoes needed for thins trip. For a couple of years I brought snow shoes and always ended up carrying them so unless it's snowed recently, I know I'm heading off trail, or I'm going up alone I leave them home.

Kane, ice looked to be a couple of feet thick on the south side of the lake but I didn't go out in the middle.

Thanks, Phillip and Jason. Coming from you guys that means a lot.

Wow! You found some excellent light in many of the 30 images at that link. And your 'development' of them brought out the very best in a subtle way. Terrific set, Russ!

Definitely love the lines in the foreground that sweep the viewer into this image. I agree with John about the development too. Many would be tempted to open the shadows more and make this look garish but I think you did a great job of keeping a realistic look!
