Very COLD - 15 degrees some mornings, always below freezing at night - but clear and bright. 8100 Sandhills, 54,000 geese, 4 Baldies, countless redtails, lots of ducks - shovelers, gadwalls, pintails, a few buffleheads and eared grebes, a few wigeon pairs. ONE tundra swan looking for friends, shrikes, lots of kestrels (or a few that get around) .
One (possibly more) 6-point buck and ladyfriend, swarms of redwing BB's and finches, elusive shy sparrows in the weeds. Meadlowlarks everywhere except where I AM.
The golden leaves of the numerous cottonwoods have been replaced by duller, brown leaves - a different, more subtle mood but still beautiful.

Very hard to leave today to get back to reality -
