Thank you to NPN for not letting google "miners" into the site! I googled my name for fun yesterday, and found that I showed up from commenting on this site!!!
Happily, the link only brought them to our main page. Who would have thought
Oh, and I'll never give a review to Amazon for a purchase again! One of those showed up, too!
I did find out, that I am the only Lucy VanSwearingen in the United States...............

Google your own name and see if Big Brother is watching you, too.

Ahhh, but remember that in this case Big Brother is private enterprise and that's supposed to be wonderful.

Lucy - First of all, I was just able to Google you and see actual NPN pages - not just the front page. NPN would not like to limit what shows up in search engines; As a commercial site, showing up high in search engine lists is a good thing! This is mainly true for the main site (they are the first result for a search of "nature photography") but is good for other search results too. Provided they don't do things counter-productive to their users or their mission, I think showing up as much as possible in Google is good.

Second, I'm sort of amazed that you're worried about your name showing up for Amazon reviews, or comments on NPN, etc. I don't see any issue with those types of things; It's not like they are protected or hidden in any way - anyone can read them, whether they show up in a search engine or not. Now if things that were private in some way were showing up, I'd agree with you - nobody wants their bank info or credit info, etc. showing up. But otherwise, everyone in the world can read all your NPN posts!

Guess I'm from such an old school, where 1984 was a book to be studied in English class. The reality is still a little disconcerting to a fifty-six year old, like myself.

Lucy - be happy you aren't a public employee who's salary info, title, employment, resignation and appointments come up within a few pages of a google search

Oh I've read and studied 1984... I've read it a few times in fact. But there's a BIG difference between people being able to see things that you choose to put out there on a public web site, and the government forcing you to be watched (not that there aren't disconcerting examples of that too in some ways).

You make being fifty-six sound like one hundred and six. Your as young as you act.

Sorry Brad, buy old school does not mean OLD> Come train horses with me and keep up my ranch, and we'll see who's old! :wavey:

Being a bit too familiar with what you're describing, I have to admire anyone who can do so yet find the time and energy for photography! Hats off to you Lucy! :toast:
