Well, I wasn't going to join in here with my favorites, but I've so throughly enjoyed looking at the best work from so many talented and artistic photographers here, that...I wasn't going to join in here.
But, hey...here are my favorite images from 2012 in chronological order.
Thanks to everyone here for the inspiration to keep going and to keep improving and to keep pushing myself further.

Looks like you had yourself quite a year. I like all of them! The sandstone stuff always gets to me though, it's like a soft spot in my heart.
Viewing your amazing collection of images is almost enough to make me want to hang up my camera for good. Seriously, one of THE finest "Year in Reviews" I've seen. Cleopatra's Needle looks insanely cool and I'll have to plan a trip there some day. Thanks for the inspiration, John!

Fantastic images, John. I always look forward to seeing your work.
John, I just dropped in this morning to see what was happening and I must say I was completely blown away by your "Symphony in Stone"! That has to be one of the very best slot images ever to be made. Simply stunning in every way!!!!

Cleopatra's Needle is strong, stunning, and absolutely beautiful. I think it's the kind of image that inspires awe of the subject. I also enjoyed seeing something I'd never seen before. You certainly know your way around the Colorado Plateau. I think you need to take on a new name - something like "Prince of the Plateau".

Wow John! I'm glad you decided to post your favorites. Fantastic work all around the slot images are all excellent with Symphony in Stone my favorite. Silent Gathering is right up there as well.

Superlatives are aways in order when talking about your images, John....these certainly fit that description.

I knew when you would bring yours they would blow me away, and they did! What a fantastic collection, Amigo! I'm partial to the sandstone work you do as well, but your talent shines through in all of your work. Your night shots rank up there with anyone's. I really like Doug's suggestion of "Prince of the Plateau." And, I loved "Sage and Sand" the first time I saw it.

Awesome! I love Desert Pottery! Oh, and the Vortex is stellar, too.

Great set, John! You are the desert MAN!!!

Cleopatra's Needle is my favorite of course :) Now I need to go there! The lightning shot is very sweet. I'm burnt out on seeing sandstone, but symphony is gorgeous. Great year!
I'm partial to your sandstone work, especially The Bridge that one is true fine art. I also like the well composed Silent Gathering. As always John your work inspires many of us here at NPN, and I think all of us here know what a great photographer you are. That being said, you couple that photography talent with being one of the most sincere, most engaging and generous people I’ve met on the internet. Know your generosity in sharing well thought out critique and support does not go unnoticed. I have a feeling I can say that for all of us here at NPN.
What a study in texture, line, form... amazing images all and just one year?

A truly excellent collection John!

Fire and Ice...still my favorite from you last year. The contrasting colors and patterns are fantastic. I agree with other comments made. If that collection was just my life time achievement in photography, I would be proud. Also, makes me embarrassed to post any of my images on this site.
Your imagery has inspired me to want to wander out of mountains and visit the deserts next year.

Awesome portfolio, John. My favs are Cleo's Needle, and Symphony in Stone, and Donnakeil, not to mention Vortex

You never disappoint, John! Every single one of those is outstanding!

John, amazing work as usual! Love the slot canyon work, so sublime. My favorites are hooded angel and symphony in stone. I think your sage and sand image is fantastic. I love the textures...the amazing results of time and wind. Beautiful!
Fantastic stuff John! I'm especially partial to Vortex and Desert Pottery, but nothing in that set disappoints at all.

Wow, just wow! It's impossible to pick a favorite out of this selection, but I'm a bit partial to the Cove Arch star trails. I've always wanted to visit that arch, and it's a rarely photographed place for how large it is, and you did it great justice. Stunningly beautiful. "Desert Pottery" is probably the most aptly-named photograph I've seen this year. So unique. Love the textures on "Sage and Sand" too.
