Mistle Thrush
Wow, only 2 images posted this year so far, and only 1 since the 2nd. I'm hoping it's because of the dire weather we've had recently... :frown:

Anyway, this was taken at the same time as my waxwing. The resident mistle thrush was very keen to see off the waxwings when they landed in the berry trees. I would prefer it if the angle was a bit more towards me, but I'm very pleased with the pose and background on this one.

Techs:
Nikon D300s
Nikon 600mm f4 AFS-II
Tripod
F4
1/320s
ISO 800

Thanks for looking, and I hope everyone had a good new year

I like this Oscar, even if the head is looking away. Mistle thrushes survive the winter by finding a bush full of berries, and guarding it jealously. Waxwings, on the other hand, travel around in flocks and will strip an area bare and then move on. Mistle thrushes rarely manage to deter the waxwing onslaught, so I am not surprised this one was agitated. What is the background? I cannot believe you found anything that blue in recent months!

Thanks David, the background was the roof of a house behind the berries. It wasn't that blue, but I haven't altered the colour of it at all in the photo so I'm not sure why it looks so blue!

Nice one Oscar, clours really stand out.

Hi Oscar, colours do work well and I like the open beak. Moving slightly to the left to avoid the brighter area bottom LHC would perhaps have given a more 'uniform BKG, but then it might have created an awkward angle for the subject? The stems a berries make a nice contrast in colour to the BKG.

Yes great colours here Oscar and the blue BG really makes the foreground detail stand out

I think most people have been staying indoors due to the weather Oscar. The only pics that I took over the hols had family and xmas trees in them :frown:

Send it round to my garden, I've some berries left on two mistletoe plants parasitising a couple of my apple cordons .  A nice colourful 2½D image.

Makes a welcome change to grey damp backgrounds.

Great image Oscar, the white berries compliment the bird and sky very well.
