Great weather here in Swindon today so after work headed off to the restored canal a couple of miles from my house. I had recce'd this location last week and spotted that this stretch of canal (which runs close by a new housing estate in Swindon) was home to half a dozen Little Grebes (as well as a few nesting moorhens and coots).
This section of canal has some very nice photogenic spots and the evening light falls nicely on the water so a decent location for some afterwork photography.
Turned up this evening with the intention of trying for some Little Grebe shots, but initially couldn't locate any so had to settle for photographing some nesting moorhens. Eventually a Little Grebe showed up and I managed a few half decent shots as it moved and dived up and down the canal length carefully avoiding all of the attractive and well lit spots. Eventually I managed some shots in a better part of the canal, but unfortunately my best shot also featured a large floating green bottle
This shot was about my best from the evening, but I hope to get the chance to return and try to improve on this effort. Fingers crossed the weather holds out.
Very nice indeed. Agree with a bit of ccr. I have a similar shot to this but from a higher shooting angle and it doesn't look half as good as this. Good shooting!!

Nice shot with good light and a low angle - the BG doesn't bother me too much, shows the habitat well!
